Ketika Sony memperlihatkan secara rasmi reka bentuk PS5 kepada umum, ramai yang agak terkejut dengan saiz konsol permainan tersebut.

Ini kerana saiz konsol generasi terbaru itu sangat besar. Jadi ramai yang tertanya-tanya, mengapa ia sangat besar.

Dalam temu bual bersama Phil Spencer dalam saluran YouTube Gary Whitta di program Animal Talking, bos Xbox, Phil Spencer berspekulasi berkenaan mengapa saiz PS5 sangat besar.

Beliau menjelaskan, bagi pihak Microsoft mahupun Sony, jurutera pembangun perkakasan konsol berdepan isu yang sama iaitu isu mengekalkan prestasi konsol ketika perkakasannya panas dan cuba menjadikannya senyap ketika dimainkan.

Jadi, jurutera Microsoft dan Sony mempunyai cara tersendiri bagi menangani isu tersebut.

I know the physics that we’re both dealing with with the power of these consoles, and cooling these consoles — the power, the energy use, the cooling — those are real challenges this generation, because we’re talking about consoles that now, on the CPU and GPU side, are real, powerful computers, effectively,”

"We chose our design because we wanted a large fan that we could spin a little more slowly so we’re not making noise. We wanted a very quiet console, so noise was something that we focused on. So we built a form-follow-function design so that we could draw a lot of air with a big fan spinning a little bit slower so we didn’t get those high-pitched whining sounds that sometimes consoles can make." Phil Spencer.

Jadi untuk konsol Xbox Series X, reka bentuk petak segi empat sama yang meninggi ke atas digunakan.

Manakala untuk saiz PS5 pula, beliau berspekulasi "knowing that the PlayStation 5 is running at higher clocks, it just creates more [heat]... it creates unique design challenges in how you keep these things cool." Phil Spencer.

Jadi beliau berpendapat, reka bentuk PS5 begitu besar adalah bagi menangani isu panas.

Dalam temubual itu juga bos Xbox itu secara terang mengaku meminati reka bentuk PS5 dan akan memilikinya apabila ia dilancarkan nanti.
